I’m counting on it. It’s kind of unfair that I have to do a PhD to become a villain.
Nah, according to my one daughter, (ME PhD), is when you get your masters, they let you play with all the cool toys. If you get your PhD, they let you be boss and take all the toys away from you…
Doctors Strange and Who will co-author a paper that differs.
Dr. Strange while “good” is a asshole
Well… Victor Frankenstein wasn’t a doctor in the book; he was a young student and he never achieved any degree. The “doctor” thing comes from the movies.
I also dispute whether he was a villain.
Anakin had neither (╥﹏╥)
if you leave out some letters from “Darth” out, tho…
Is it dart?

Or art?

You’re really keeping me in suspense.
Truly a left made man.
So true, who thinks ‘I want 10x more of that’ after the masters dissertation?. You think 'I need a vacation but I have no money and live in moms basement now
But that’s another story…
I had a scholarship for the Ph.D. If it’s free, it’s for me. 7 years of pure suffering for FREE!
Free? I get paid for it, most PhD “students” here are university employees. I have to do some tutoring, but I can also get students that work for me.
Still sounds like a job but good on you!
What’d it get you? A sense of pride and accomplishment?
Pretty much. Call me Dr. Washedupcynic. My current field doesn’t use my degree. Graduated in 2008 during the recession. Could not find a job in my field, so leveraged my degree to get into a weakly adjacent field. It’s wild getting calls from places I applied to in 2012 in my field trying to pitch me positions that pay less than what I make now, in a position that doesn’t require an advanced degree.
I feel bad for Master Baits tho
No it feels good bro
Reminds me of:

As someone with a PhD, I can confirm both images are accurate.
Sending this to my wife who stopped her PhD program due to shitty advisors and ended up with a Master’s instead
This is literally true because you cannot get a PhD if you don’t learn to navigate University politics, which is the singular largest corrupting influence in academia. If you fail to do that, they literally give you a Masters as a consolation prize for preserving your integrity.
I beat the system by skipping the Master’s on the way to my PhD and then not getting the PhD in the end. Smoked a hell of a lot of dope, though.
You sounds like you know from experience
If you want a read about the humanities in particular, here’s a history PhD’s commentary on his experience: https://acoup.blog/2021/10/01/collections-so-you-want-to-go-to-grad-school-in-the-academic-humanities/
Eh, maybe. It’ll probably be less relevant for me because the humanities are basically all politics, there’s very little way to just “get results.”
But i’ll probably still give it a read, it’s bound to be helpful.
Edit: did read, was depressing… I wonder how similar the experience is in a STEM program? I’m sure the advice of “choose your advisor carefully” applies, but at least internships are pretty common so you can ‘test drive’ your advisor somewhat.
The reason I have a PhD is because I was about to drop out and get a real job, when one of our papers won an award and I backed my way into a thesis defense with a 30 page dissertation because it made my advisor look good.
Doofenshmirtz bought his PhD online.
thanks, just forwarded to my PhD friends
also, i have been telling them that i will gladly call them doctor if they call me master
Haha, I did the same thing. Still waiting.
They’re plotting your doom.
You need a good guy with phd to stop the bad guy with phd
Dr dog feeling lonesome
Hello? Yes, this is dr dog
Doctor Who Vs The Master. Hmm. Have we been watching a show about a villain all along?
Even the The Doctor acknowledges that sometimes he does things that end up being evil in the end. The master doesn’t care he just wants his best friend back.
