I see this. There was another thread today where people were discussing if stuff like this counts as a “meme” or if it’s off topic for this page. I’ll be making a pinned post for community input tomorrow about a potential new rule. Stay tuned.

201·1 month agoI see a bit of both sides being argued in the comments here. We don’t have a clear rule about this atm, so removals have been inconsistent and case-by-case, often based on reports.
Maybe I’ll start and pin a discussion thread about this during the week (when we’ll get the most eyes on it) and see what the wider community wants, and if desired, maybe we can come up with a rule wording that isn’t too restrictive, but removes stuff that genuinely feels “off topic” for a memes page.

memes@lemmy.world•Reminder about Rule #2: No politics
1·1 year agoSometimes people want a breather, myself included. If there weren’t so many other places to browse that kind of content, we wouldn’t have the rule.
The population on Lemmy is very politically aware and has strong opinions, which is good, however that also means that it’s very easy for any community to become overwhelmed by it and suddenly have little else.

I’m seeing lots of reports on this for rule #2, and while I think this sort of commentary is obviously the basis of a lot of political bickering, I’m not sure if the framing in the meme itself is wholly political.
I might be way off base making a judgement call here, but I’m going to leave this one be.
