Resist giving employers ANY details. Your doctor certainly won’t give them any, you don’t have to either. I send a text or email “I’m unwell and won’t be in today” and my doctor’s notes all say “Diagnosis: medical condition.”

Could be a throat infection ( it currently is, it’s 3am and I am sick as a dawg), could be a cold, could be a broken wrist, could be depression. They aren’t entitled to know.

When I was a manager all absences were counted the same, unless you had some kind of FMLA deal which didn’t go through me. They were counted by the timeclock system and there was nothing I could do about it. There was literally 0 reason to tell my why you were out. All I needed to know is that you weren’t going to be in that day. People still insisted on giving me sob stories all the time.

Oh yeah, some people seem compelled to give gory details. Hey lady, I absolutely don’t need to know about your colonoscopy, all thebest tho. Gastric ulcers? That’s a bummer fella, now can I get my client outreach update?

Forcing proof for medical leave is such bs.

Most people won’t abuse sick leave and if someone does start abusing it they will ultimately be unable to perform their job and need to go on either short or long term disability which will require proof.

Checking every minor issue is utterly dehumanizing and a waste of everyone’s time.

It’s a way for them to semi-legally force you to not take your sick leave, because it’s gonna always be a huge pain to get to your GP (or urgent care in the US, because your GP is booked solid for another two months) and get that doctor’s note.

And those scumbag politicians don’t even try to hide it. Here in Germany the conservative rulers and their minions recently demanded for “doctor’s notice on first day” paired with a ban on notices through phone or video. They did so right after talking about how we “need to work more to secure ‘our’ wealth”. It’s so blatant it hurts.

Of course literally everyone hated that except companies led by soulless, mindless career managers who treat humans as mere annoying resources. And of course right-wingers who don’t care for humans anyway.

Years ago I was sick as hell. I was up all nigh vomiting and having diarehha. I hadn’t left the toilet since like 11 the night before, I don’t enen think I flushed it. I managed to text my boss that I was sick and couldn’t come it. He had the nerve to call me a liar and say I was faking it. I sent him a picture of the toilet… Only response was “feel better”

He was an asshole so he should be used to shit. Same guy one year, the company sponsored a “Thanksgiving dinner”, he told one of my coworkers, who was admittedly overweight like 300-350lbs “wait till everyone else gets a plate before you eat everything”

Also years later I had a friend message me “hey former lead applied for a management job where I work and I saw he worked at company you did. Was he any good?” I told him all these stories and the former lead didn’t even get an interview

Funny enough he “quit” when the lead said something to him(don’t know what) and he told the lead to shut up. The lead responded with “you’re on the clock, you can’t speak to me that way”… He proceeded to punch out at the time clock, tell the lead “fuck you” and walked out…
