This goes for journaling and blogging too. If you write, remember to write about your good experiences too, not just the bad ones. This is one reason why journaling on a cadence is better than only journaling when you feel like it.

There was a time, before Google showed their hand, that I would go out of my way to leave Google reviews. Good, bad or somewhere in between I would document the customer experience.

Since Google made it clear what trajectory they are on I have returned to the old ways. Amazing service gets a letter, great service gets a quiet word to the manager. Bad service gets a word to the manager at the end of the transaction, terrible service and I just never return again and tell anyone who asks why. Everything in between those extremes gets me acting as a polite customer and that’s about it.

    Have I over thought this?

That’s about right, you don’t often hear the good things only the bad.

IT is a similar thing, you only know when it doesn’t work. Nothing to indicate it’s sort most of the time

These review services should create a score based on your reviews that you have to maintain. In a 5-star system, that would be a 3. If the sum of all the stars you have awarded divided by the number of reviews you have published falls below 3, then you can only submit reviews that will bring that score up, until it is back to 3, then you can do whatever you want again. This will encourage users to think more carefully about shit they use that they like as much as shit the use that they don’t like and that works better for everybody.

I don’t think that’s fair. It’s just that all the positive reviewers are on AirBnB and Temu. Sometimes it feels like the average score on those two sites is over 4 stars, no matter the product or stay.

Granted, both are algorithm-driven, so they conceivably filter out poorly reviewed items.

Every so often leave positive reviews about customer service staff interactions, either serving staff in brick and mortar stores or phone support. Since I know how demotivating jobs are where you have to interact with members of the public who are often inpatient/rude/abusive.

I don’t know how many of these feed back to either the staff themselves or factor into raise/promotion/retention decisions, but I hope some of it helps.
