I’ve noticed that most people are pretty bad at explaining board game rules, and some outright refuse to fully read the rules, which leads to confusion, which leads to frustration.
Also, when playing a new game with kids, play a few rounds thinking out loud and explain why you are doing what you are doing. It really helps them understand the game better.

I am a creature that is only capable of learning by fire. Just start the game and let me make the dumbest mistakes possible as long as they’re within the rules, and I’ll probably figure it out eventually!
Yeah but no one wants to deal with that “as long as they’re within the rules” for you.
Rules and strategy are very separate things when teaching.
My stupid brain won’t let me start playing a game against someone until I know they get it. It feels unfair if we just jump in.
