What if I identify as an Apache attack helicopter?
SM-57 can honestly just be all of these.
This person audios.
All of those yes but not the kick and bass mic. Had to buy a beta 52 for those.
Two or three inches up from the bottom-center of a non-ported kick drum works in a pinch, but never tried it with a ported head.
I believe I’ve seen a bass cab mic’ed similarly as well, though I for sure saw a Beta 58 (not a 52) used for this purpose quite a few times by pointing the center of the capsule directly at the bottom-center edge of the speaker ---- looks like partially mic’ing the wood, but I remember it worked really well!
Came in for this comment! I usually use an SM-57 on vocals, guitars and snares. The sort of singers I record really love grabbing the 57 and jumping around just like they do on stage. SM-58 is too fancy for these guys.
If it’s good enough for Lemmy (Kilmister), it’s good enough for them.
The SM58 vs SM57 is the best.
Industrie Standard for shure 🥁
I dunno, condensers all the way!
Some madmen use the SM57 for vocals.
Well it’s the same capsule so you caaaaann. But without the pop filter it can sound kinda poppy.
Other mics: *recites long, baffling mic specs*
– MEANWHILE –
SM57: DOES IT MAKE SOUND, THO?
The amount of shitty podcasts who use the SM7 and just don’t bother to pair it with a nice pre-amp is too damn high. It is so high, that shure now makes a dB version with an in-built pre-amplifier. That mic sounds very particular when it is improperly used and is a telltale sign the podcast is going to be shit. All the hype, no actual knowledge. (save a very few exceptions of good writers before they learned more about sound engineering)
I’d argue that you see a lot more people having no clue about audio and doing a podcast / stream use the SM7B.
what if i just want to scream at peruvians on dota2?
This was the only fucking link I could find… LOL
Røde PodMic
does it come with background fan noise and screaming toddlers?
If you’re looking for that you should look at a cheap, omnidirectional large diaphragm microphone! Preferably USB powered, not XLR. That’d certainly have you covered.
What’s the one for the St. Anger snare. Asking for a friend.
They probably took pointers from those crusty-ass black metal bands that walk into the studio asking the engineer for his shittiest mic, then spend half the session finding the worst way to rig it. They don’t need repeat takes anyway, the sloppy playing is part of the vibe.
