My favorite one was buying train tickets in Poland. I would always get stuck behind someone asking tings like “what would be the price of a ticket from Warsaw to Moscow, through Kiev, 3 months from now for a group of 5 people, two on whom are children and 2 have disability and a return ticket 5 months later but through Riga and this time for 8 people 6 of which are elderly and 2 have discount for railway workers?.. ok… what about a ticket to Berlin through Wrocław 5 months from now for 2 elderly veterans and a return…”. And I’m not even exaggerating. I would change the line only to end up right behind another person asking about some crazy connections.

Okay this meme template suddenly getting used multiple times in a few days after I watched the Truman Show makes me feel like I’m in the Truman show and the director is just kinda trying to fuck with my head.

If you have 10 people in line, 8 are quick and 2 are slow, it will look to you like there were only 2 people in line and that everyone is slow.
If anyone is quick, they won’t be in line long enough for you to notice / care about them.

I’d say it depends on the order they come in. But the principle is sound, especially when combined with negativity bias (evolutionary mechanism).

And one old lady in a mobility scooter that insists on complaining about the price of stamps which launches her into a long winded back in my day story which the clerk just nods to for 20 mins.

Post office in my country is awful

They want to offer literally anything except postal services

Banking, insurance, energy, phones, ISP, money transfers, passport renewals, tax payments, id verifications.

So if you need to ship something with a prepaid label (30 seconds), you have 100 people in front of you because there’s the grandma that needs to open a new sim card and need to do full id verification (15 minutes), grandpa that wants to open a bank account to deposit the pension. And so on. You get a number in queue, but postal services have a lower priority compared to anything else.

So, get ready to wait 1-2 hours because the auntie really needs to waste 30 minutes at the counter comparing 36 months of gas, electric, phone and internet bills to see if she can save €1/month

I waited behind a lady at the self kiosk for like 15 min while she repeatedly swiped her phone across the card reader.

    Yes. Her phone.

Yes but not at the usps kiosk . That only accepts swiping cards through the reader. It did not have contactless pay.

It had like 2 signs that said cards must be inserted. And states which cards were accepted. Didn’t accept apple pay or any phone payment.

IIRC (from my coworker) Samsung had a feature where their phones could somehow emulate swiping a magnetic strip on a reader. This was ~6 years ago, so only some terminals had tap-to-pay.

Yeah but the reader has to have that ability. And this one had like 5 signs that said cards must be inserted. It had no reader for holding a card or phone up to it.

And she was swiping it across this yellow thing that was above where the stamps are dispensed. It def did not read cards nor phones.
