And they couldn’t even deliver on protecting LGBT people because they lost the election carrying water for a genocide and selling out the American working class. You can’t even make the argument that Democrats will protect queer people anymore because they have repeatedly proven they will fumble the ball running on unpopular policies and then sell us out when it’s better for their donors.

Democrats are basically a speed bump at this point. At least Republicans are trying to destroy America; unintentionally yes but I’d almost rather crash into the wall full speed rather than be stuck in whatever chokehold the Democrats are trying to prolong

It’s worth noting that during the Korean War the US killed 15-20% of North Koreans. That’s a higher percentage killed than many genocides and much of it was exacted through deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure yet it’s almost never discussed as a genocide. We hang Nazis for lesser crimes at Nuremberg

Source for that 75% claim? Wondering how it’s calculated since I’ve heard ~90% died to plagues the settlers brought, but since 75% is below that it seems like it’s calculating something else. Is it referring to some specific time period?

It is possible 90% of certain tribes on the East Coast died of plague. However the vast majority of native Americans were slaughtered other ways.

Over what time period are we talking though?

Like the Wikipedia article says 10-100M and up to 95% died from plagues brought over from ~1500-1618, but I can’t tell if the sources are any good/reliable.

Does this count or does it mean that of those who remained, a further 75% got genocided? Or is it referring to some specific even later genocide.

If we’re talking about the time period from 1500 to 1618. Then we’re talking about the time. Where we’re looking at the islands we’re looking at Central America and South America during the Spanish and Portuguese take over those areas. And we’re looking at just the beginnings of the east coast in the continental United states. That doesn’t count for the tens of thousands of fries with millions of members across the rest of the continent. The slaughter of them came way way after that.

Making fun of Trump and Biden for being genocidal pieces of shit is cool, but making fun of Biden’s stutter is ableist and that’s not ok.

You should edit this meme to remove that portion.

I’m not defending Biden here as I feel the same. I’m saying our critiques of him should not be alienating to marginalized people.

If your critique is that he’s dumb because he has a stutter, you can apply that to other people with stutters and I don’t think that’s what anyone here wants to do. Biden has distinctly evil qualities in his actions through the years that are better targets than utilizing ableism to critique him.

This is about showing empathy for the people around you who suffer even more within this shit system than most do, it’s not about showing Biden empathy.

I’m honestly always a bit unsure about this topic. From one side I don’t want to generalise and being ableist because:

If your critique is that he’s dumb because he has a stutter

This is objectively wrong and I totally get it. On the other end, we don’t live in a perfect world and to convey some emotion we need to use words that have a baggage or are imperfect. In any case, my personal meter for judging is always the intention and the context, more than the word itself.

Do I think every person who shutters is dumb that’s why I used it on Biden? Of course not.

Do I find hilarious thinking at Biden in a pool of shit having an heart attack and trying to spell “help”? Absolutely yes.

I would have liked the meme more if on the Trump part there was “shits himself”.

It’s the contrast the point, putting a man of power who should project this idea of “alfa” man with the reality of normal human disability. It puts them at our level, where we can bully them.

There’s plenty of legit critiques and things to make fun of both of these people without using ableism. This is like the memes calling Trump and Putin gay, you aren’t hurting your target, you are just further marginalizing normal people who struggle with these issues.

Would it be acceptable to go after Obama by comparing him to a monkey? No. That’s just racist shit and it has no place here.

Can’t say for certain without knowing exactly which memes you’re talking about but the ones I’ve seen are often the opposite. The butt of the joke is their ‘hypermasculinity’, drawing attention to how ridiculous the concept is and thereby trying to destigmatize being gay or at least being more open to ‘gay’ behaviours (e.g. empathy).

There’s also ones where they’re directly accused of being closeted (e.g. Graham) which is a bit more harmful but even then it seems strategically positive in that allies won’t care, and if it gets the hateful ones to turn on them that improves conditions for the vast majority of ordinary lgbtq+ members.

The purpose of this is not to make a comparison between two ill suited politicians (Trump being the far worse), but to erode trust in democratic institutions and to prevent you from even paying attention and voting. The purpose of this is to mock people who believe that voting for the puppet on Wall St’s left hand is somehow a better deal than voting for the puppet on the right hand.

The thing eroding trust in Democratic institutions is the continual enshittification of life via Neoliberal policy that keeps on progressing regardless of which puppet won the most recent popularity contest.

The entire system and the entire billionaire owned media is absolutely stopping people from electing independent politicians, in any kind of numbers that might change anything.

How broken is your moral compass that you think supporting a genocide can ever be a lesser evil?

It is an admirable thing, in a politics possessed of a moral floor, to believe one can change the system from the inside, that with enough respectful prodding the establishment can be made to bend, like that famous arc, toward justice. But when, after decades of such thinking, decades of respectful prodding, the condition one arrives at is reticent acceptance of genocide, is it not at least worth considering that you are not changing the system nearly as much as the system is changing you?

          long standing contracts

That graph he just posted kinda pokes some holes in this narrative that it’s just “long standing contracts” when there’s a massive increase in aid during his term.

There’s also the reality that you lot tend to ignore/deny which is that Biden bypassed congress to send additional weapons.

And you describe the US as “the biggest weapon manufacturer in the world” as though that somehow makes it better instead of worse. We’re already producing ridiculous numbers of bombs, and then we’re sending even more bombs to arm a genocide, and that’s somehow OK?

It’s so ridiculous. All the US is doing is having Israel do it’s dirty work so it has plausible deniability that rubes and partisan hacks can hide behind.

Yes they are both exactly the same. They both started the same number of wars. They both imposed the same amount of tariffs. They both dismantled the institutions in the same way. They both enriched themselves completely equally. They both created the same anti immigrant/lgbtqia/abortion rules. They both fucked over the economy exactly the same.

The are completely the same. Don’t you see it? Everything you felt got worse under Trump is just your imagination because they are completely the same. So don’t vote at all because they are completely the same. Trust me. Just throw your vote away. Because they are completely the same. It doesn’t matter if the Republicans get another term because they are completely the same. Just give in to your despair and do nothing. Let the others handle it because it doesn’t matter because they are completely the same. Ignore all the date saying otherwise because I made meme that said they are completely the same. And that means they are completely the same.

And if they are not the same then the democrats are surely not perfect and that makes them worse than the Republicans. Don’t you see it if you make things only a little better it’s much worse than making everything worse because eat least that is consequent.
