astrology believers is about 30% of the population. a few billion folks

astronomers are about 0.00016% of the population. (there are only 12,500 globally)

I went on a couple of dates with someone who had a Astronomy PhD, but worked in marketing. Not sure that counts. She did not believe in astrology, but made fun of me for working in research rather than industry.

There’s much more interest in science than there are careers in it.

I teach scuba and underwater photography at a major university as a side gig. I have dozens of former students with advanced degrees in aquatic biology who now work in retail.

Yeah, but how many of them come from a family where they were never expected to work or pay their own bills?

At least in my experience of a handful of folks in Marine Biology research… every single one of them.

Working low/minimal wage work isn’t so bad if your folks are loaded and you’ll just inherent their wealth. It’s just a waiting game.
