Where I’m at (US, decades behind), fb is still the most used platform. The entire city is on it. everyone has it.

The issue. There is zero alternative. Ive asked this on here like 3 times. I either get no answers or someone says use matrix etc. Thats not like fb. I see no solution to this and nothing will ever change until we do. Signal.is the best thing becuase it almost carbon copied all the other messaging apps and it is very easy to switch someone over.

Someone trying to go to friendica or matrix from fb is going to be veeerryyyyy confused. Remember most people dont have a computer anymore and tech literacy is at an all time low.

This is what grind my gears…

American is now under fascism that has been clearly and happily enabled by the tech bros… yet they refuse to give up these shitty platforms. Any mention they are not doing enough to fight the regime devolves into a version of “Do yOu WAnT mE tO dIE oN THE stREET???”… no, but at the very least stop feeding them

I kinda see myself as a tech bro but feel like supporting these shitty platforms is very not bro-like behavior.

“Tech Bro” could have been such a cool title to look forward to… the techie dude or dudette that is always willing to help you with your tech stuff or show you new tech goodies

But alas, we are in this timeline and not an alternative one

Best way to hate on a billionaire social media… is to not use it.

Let Elon fuck away his money on an empty platform.

No, that is the healthiest/least draining thing to do, the militant and most effective thing to do is relentlessly shit on corporate social media with your old corpo account while moving the rest of your social identity to the fediverse.

Obnoxiously link to the fediverse, talk about it unprompted, strip mine the relevance of your posts to the algorithm before you leave.

I am not saying everyone has to do this, I am not even necessarily recommending it as a general suggestion but this is clearly the best way to hate on billionaire social media and fight back against it. If you have the energy, don’t throw away the value of your social connections to the corpo algorithm without first converting as much as possible of it to awareness of the fediverse and how shitty corpo social media is, if your objective is to fight as hard as possible.

edit corporate social media is toxic as hell, I make this point not as a judgement of people who just log out and never log back in to corporate social media, take care of yourself, this strategy is for if you have the mental headspace to do it.

Idk this tracks, if a ship is sinking there’s a guy yelling at the occupants to board the lifeboats – it’s good to have some folk alert everyone to the accessible exit.

Problem is, while a lot of folk are aware and want their life to be self-governed, a lot aren’t aware that the ship is sinking, and some are but prefer the icy Atlantic footbath over having to stand up and walk towards liberation. And some don’t see anything wrong with the fact that the sinking was caused by some billinaire shooting holes in the hull. “Somebody do something”, “the system is working”, yadda yadda
