Jesus Christ appointed Peter as the rock of his church (literally Cephas, meaning rock) and he told him to “feed my sheep”. And he gave him the keys to heaven. (Why I chose Catholicism)

We have a lot of historical and philosophical proof for the existence of Jesus Christ and his divinity, and a lot of proven miracles as well. (Why I have faith in Christ)

And don’t forget the Bible was made up by a bunch of illiterate men who could barely read or write, basically playing the game of telephone with all the stories written in the Bible. Oh and a great way to control the masses is to make it a death cult, so you can do whatever you want on life, and as long as you “repent” you’ll get into a perfect place with perfect people

        I’m a atheist, raised catholic.

I agree religion is a bullshit method of control. But — Repenting isn’t so easy, it’s not only saying you’re sorry for everything. You’ve gotta repent so hard you feel it in your soul, like it’s gotta be physically and spiritually painful. You have to make God Himself believe you. And you have to be willing to accept any just punishment in return.

So you chose it? I think you’re the first Catholic convert I’ve met. And it was hearing / reading the recruitment of Peter that was the turning point? Was it something that resonated with you or was it something else?

        Yeah, I chose Catholicism.

and Peter being given the keys to heaven and being the first Pope is undeniable proof of catholicism

I’m struggling to find anything that confirms Peter was a real person.

If you just swallow the sacred history of the RCC and run with ‘maybe the bible is true’ but that works with loads of religions.

You surely can’t be reading the Book of Acts as history?

He pops up in briefly in Marcion’s first New Testament in around 140CE and then becomes some kinda patriarch figure in the later 27 book Catholic New Testament and via St Irenaeus.

Scripture is awesome but for the love of God don’t be reading the Catholic 27 book NT’s like they are history textbooks.

We have no idea who St Paul was or what he wrote either, it’s fine.
