    The English never stated that god promised them some land.

    They just took it for the Crown.

      Yeah the excuse the Brits and French used for land theft was to better the savages and teach them about Christ.

      " god gave me this land " is manifest destiny reserved for settler colonies like the US and Israel.

      Isn’t the point of the whole “divine right of kings” that the kings actions follow the will of god? Or worded a bit differently, that a king works as a god’s proxy.

      This would mean that taking land for the crown means taking it in the name of god, right?

        I think so for sure. But who knows what someone who wants to defend a god or their favorite country might want to imply by extension.
