Using flowery language talking to a jury is explaining how it’s not that bad, and he eventually rots in prison. The self serving lies are both obvious and numerous .

But some-fucking-how most people think it’s a problematic star crossed lovers, romeo and juilet, age is just a number, forbidden romance BS. Multiple movies and stage have distorted the book into the exact thing the author was mocking.
