  • Some thoughts:

    • …What’s actually different about Squidge? If the code is the same as Ao3, what makes it a more appealing target for “colonization” than just using Ao3?

    • #1 and #2 aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, if the formatting is the same, cross posting to Squidge should be trivial.

    • On #2. Instead of a fork, why not PR otw code? Make the federation link a completely self-contained, discrete module, one that’s not a burden for OTW to maintain. Perhaps architect it as some basic access points in the OTW code, then the federation API support is a completely separate layer. This would massively reduce the dev burden, as it would inherit all the work in OTW code.

    • Yeah, I don’t have the energy for such a huge code project myself, but I might help some.

    • I’ve… neglected a fic for about a year, but it’s still living in my head. I think I’m going to get back to writing today, thanks! And I suppose I’ll cross posting it to Squidge too.

  • Yeah in hindsight I worded that a bit extremely.

It is basically Valheim with creatures though, its similar to many survival crafters (albeit well done).

And I’m speaking more from a “strict” business perspective here. Palworld is obviously courting Pokemon fans, but from Nintendo’s perspective, Palworld is in a different market; I doubt they’re actually losing any sales of Pokemon games to Palworld.

    This whole thing is silly.

Palword isn’t a Pokemon competitor. It’s an Ark/Valheim-like on PC; it has nothing to do with the Switch, it’s nothing like Pokopia or most Pokemon games. Nintendo doesn’t sell PC games!

This would be akin to Skyrim being an Xbox exclusive, and BGS suing Stardew Valley for “dynamic NPCs” on the Switch version.

…Why? It’s not a competitor at all; what’s the business motivation?

Palworld marketing certainly leaned into the controversy, but honestly Nintendo is stupid for starting this, even from a pure business perspective.

  • All part of the plan, so you subscribe to game streaming.

7900s, 4090s, and 5090s will become “forbidden technology” like you see in post apocalyptic fantasy where tech is magic. But also “idoocracy cyberpunk,” as human production is diverted to launching GPUs in space which engineers… awkwardly task with busywork.

You think I’m being hyperbolic. I am not.
