  • I have two servers. There’s the VPS hosted by Hetzner, and then I have my own home server sitting on a shelf in my hallway. The home server has all of my data and private apps, like Jellyfin, Navidrome, Audiobookshelf, etc. Then I pipe traffic via Netbird on my Hetzner VPS to my home server. Since Netbird goes via Wireguard, it’s a VPN connection and I don’t expose anything to the public.

The one exception to this are game servers that I host. Those are pointed directly to my home network, and I only give that out to friends. Still, it’s a possible attack surface.

I self-host Netbird, so I’m not familiar with how they work as a host. Netbird when used as a reverse proxy also handles all the SSL certificates and whatnot. It’s basically a front for Traefik, with convenient VPN tunneling built in.

  • I have the number off because the number gets really distracting to me. If I need to know the number I’ll pull down the control center or whatever it’s called. It’s rare that the actual number is required though. You’ll know when it’s under half, and when it hits 20.

Looking at the bar right now for example I can tell that it’s gone past its 80% charging limit for whatever reason.

  • Isn’t that mostly in the line of intrusive thoughts, though? Like having a little voice in your head that goes “damn girl u hot today” sounds nice, but when you have impulses like, “aww look, my dog is sleeping, I SHOULD FUCKING CHOKE HIM OUT AND DUMP HIM OUT THE WINDOW” that’s… less welcome.

The voices depicted in stories are never pleasant and that’s why people get distressed over them.

I’ve a friend who lives with hallucinations. It’s not so much that they struggle telling what’s a hallucination and what’s reality apart, it’s more that they get in the way. They know that the forest that’s replaced their hallway and has panicked animals running through it isn’t real, but that doesn’t make it less stressful.

  • Had to boot my work Windows laptop a while ago, because the software I have to work on uses some stupid Windows sign in thing, and I wasn’t fast enough getting Kerberos working before everyone went on vacation.

I’d forgotten that every single piece of software handles its own updates, and to install anything you have to like, go around to different places and download it. It’s crazy.

Nevermind the file manager making a dozen HTTP requests every time you launch it.

  • You just reminded me.

At one point I had Windows take up two drives, one for boot and one for games. However, I only ever really used it for this one piece of software that I couldn’t get working on Linux, so I nuked it and reinstalled Windows on the smallest drive I have, just for that software.

Two weeks later I got the software working on Linux, and I completely forgot I even have a Windows partition up until now. It’s been months.

  • I can relate to this so hard. I’ve no idea how many books I read as a kid, but often several per week. I still love reading, obviously, it’s just that I don’t dedicate as much time to do it anymore. Been trying to pick the habit back up though.

One of the quirks I developed as a result of my reading habits, is that I’d use very dated terms when speaking my native tongue. I have so many early-1900s insults in my head, it’s almost unfortunate I never get to use them.

  • This is how American medicine is treated here in Sweden.

Got really sick when I visited the states, and my friend gave me some NyQuil and DayQuil. Holy fuck me in the ass, it was amazing. I completely crashed when I reached Heathrow, but it took me from being a feverish, snivelly mess, to feeling completely normal.

Here in Sweden we at most take ibuprofen/acetaminophen. If you’re burning up it’ll take the edge off, but you’re not going to be feeling good.

Man I want some of those Ami drugs.
