I mean fuck Musk but c’mon that was a PR stunt, they aren’t making these available to the public and the dang thing is an electric car that rockets around on compressed air, it’s not like is a gas guzzling IC engine spraying hydrazine and NTO everywhere. It’s not a good target for this kind of criticism, even if other parts of SpaceX tech are.

It’s a good point poorly made.

The comic just points out the irony of buying into the personal responsibility narrative while participating in the hyperconsumption which is the real driver of pollution.

Therefor it still works imho, because the car is a ridiculous toy for rich people and stands for over consumption and over production due to capitalism. And the whole carbon foodprint thing was a PR stunt by the fossil fuel industry to shift the narrative away from the systemic issues towards individual responsibility. Obviously the bottle cap is not about the carbon foodprint at all. It is to reduce plastic pollution. But imho that confusion makes the joke even stronger because most people gobble up those pseudo-band-aid solutions to real issues without questioning their effectiveness in the slightest.

IDK, this all just left me confused. The bottle caps are for reducing plastic waste in nature, not carbon footprint, and its also not about personal responsibility, because it is law or regulation (at least in EU). If it was responsibility then that guy bought them, because they wanted to do it and wouldn’t ask that way. And I also didn’t get how that has anything to do with a electric stunt car decompressing air…

Maybe I’m just unfunny or obtuse, but I didn’t get the joke… Only sense I can make of is how nonsense it is, and if that is the goal. Great… But what are they saying with that comic then?

I would argue everything musk says is a PR stunt and I don’t expect the average human being from being able to distinguish this from the many other lies and false promises he said.

People still think solar roofs are going to happen, or that teslas will some how get full self driving in 2 years even though it was promised in 2 years a decade ago. People think Tesla robots are going to be able to do more than the fortnight floss dance and are willing to pay tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a paper weight that can’t do anything.

Elons whole existance is to do PR stunts so he can scam stupid people into giving him more tax dollars. Americans hate African welfare queens, just not the right African welfare queen.

Man you say that, but I swear everytime he does something like this there’s a good chunk of people who truely believe its going to happen and he’s some benevolent hero who’s going to save the world.

that’s not why the cap is stuck to the bottle. i think the joke is that recycling is a thing invented by oil companies to push guilt into the consumer instead of the corporate overlords. which yeah, sounds like it’s a funny joke because it’s right. re-usability >>>> recycling
