I made a post over on Upscrolled recommending people check out the Fediverse:
https://share.upscrolled.com/en/post/6890f5f0-159f-11f1-8080-80006ddcdcfc/
It was kind of a random thought, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
Upscrolled is a newer, strongly pro-Palestine/Leftist platform, and a lot of the users there already care about decentralization, censorship resistance, and not relying on big corporate platforms.
That feels very aligned with what the Fediverse is about.
Since it’s still growing, I’d imagine a lot of users there might be open to trying alternatives like Mastodon, Lemmy, PeerTube, Loops, etc.
Especially if it’s framed less as “leave your platform” and more as “here’s a broader network you can also be part of.”
I was also curious if anyone else here was interested in recommending the Fediverse over there, as well.
Not in a spammy way, obviously — just sharing info and letting people know there are decentralized options that line up with their values.
Curious what others think.

5 bucks facebook is scraping the metaverse too - i’m still there though
Honestly I have never heard of upscroll. Whatever you did sounds like a good thing to me, especially the “Here’s more of the thing with more people and ticking more of your boxes you can be a part of” as a suggestion.
It doesn’t sound as tone deaf as “Use Linux” advice, although it’s also an area where I wish people took “Use Linux” as more of a “Here’s something you like” instead of “YOU MUST DO THIS”.

I added an edit with information about what Upscrolled is
Comparing PeerTube to YouTube is a little inaccurate. They are both video platforms, but honestly loops is closer to a YouTube experience than peertube. And neither of them are particularly close.
Loops is specifically for short-form, mostly vertical videos, like TikTok, whereas PeerTube is like YouTube.
Tbf maybe eodur is from the short-form generation and doesn’t realise YouTube has long form content. With that it mind it would seem strange to compare it to PeerTube which is more like Netflix. /s
I have a Firefox extension called “Hide Shorts for YouTube” that keeps the vertical shorts from showing up in my feed. I totally forgot that YouTube still has those.
I only use YouTube for long-form videos. I really hate vertical videos. And my ADHD is bad enough; I don’t need to feed it short-form content all day long. I’ll never get off my phone!
Oh this is gold! Installing this as I have an unnatural hatred for short videos
